This setup allows anyone to search for a domain and contact its owner to buy existing domains. Since this can also cause personal information to be exploited by hackers or spammers, domain owners often implement domain privacy.
Instead of listing personal details, domain registrars include information about a forwarding service, which is usually a proxy server. With this service, domain owners can avoid identity theft and receive fewer spam calls and emails.
