An attachment is a media file that a user can upload to a web program or platform. Typically, you attach the file to share, send, or publish it.

Attachments can be images, videos, audio, and more. In WordPress, files can be attached to posts, pages, and themes.
When a media file is added from the WordPress editing screen, it will immediately become an attachment to the page or post. However, if a media file is uploaded from the Media Add New screen, it will remain unattached until inserted into a particular post, page, or theme file.
After a media file is inserted, the user can choose to leave it unlinked, create a link directly to the media file, or link to an attachment page or post.
