What is a Page Template?
WordPress themes come with different sets of page templates. These templates control the layout of your posts and pages, and contain elements that you can customize.
More About Page Templates
Every WordPress theme has one or more page templates. These are PHP files that contain custom code and functions. Each template file contains instructions for the layout and elements that the page includes.
For example, most themes will include templates for single posts, archive pages, and even 404 errors. If you’re comfortable editing PHP files, you can modify page templates and even add new ones for your website. However, we recommend that you use a child theme if you plan on editing templates.
Block-based themes offer you the option of creating and modifying page templates using the Gutenberg Editor. For other themes, you can modify page templates manually using the Theme File Editor.
