What is a Trackback?
A trackback notifies an external website when you include a link to it in your content. Unlike pingbacks, trackbacks are sent manually.
More About Trackbacks
You might consider using trackbacks when you want to comment on another website’s post. This feature is useful for displaying an excerpt of your post in the comment.
You can write a blog post and then send a trackback to the external site’s post. After the owner receives the trackback, they can approve it. If approved, this can display your comment with a title, post excerpt, and a link to your post.
Since WordPress 5.0 removed the ability to send manual trackbacks, you’ll have to use the Classic Editor. When you edit a post with the Classic Editor, you can insert the site link where you want to send a trackback.
